How to make a Mini Coin Purse or Lipstick Purse - a Video Tutorial

My friend Sheila went to Japan a year or so ago and brought me back the CUTEST little coin purse kit and I had been wanting to make it for so long, but there was one issue - the instructions were in Japanese! It took me a while to decide to jump in and make it regardless of the instructions, but when I finally did a few weeks ago - I fell in love with my mini coin purse. I had to make things up as I went, but it turned out great and such a cute & fun project. I had to have more.  So I sourced some frames and and waited, and waited, and my cute little minis finally arrived. I've put together a quick video tutorial for you so that you can make them. I have to admit, I had a fun time with the video too!

I've provided templates for them in 2 sizes. The first size is perfect for a few coins, some mints or anything you would like to swing on your bag or key chain. I like to keep a $1 coin and a quarter handy for shopping carts - this is perfect!

I made the second template a little longer and perfect for a lipstick!  This one fits my Revlon, but if you have a longer tube - just trace the template and make it a bit longer. Easy and so cute!

You can design your own pattern for these, depending on the final shape you want, but if you would like to start with a simple design, I've drawn them up for you.

Let's get right to it! Watch the video tutorial:

If you would like a longer look at the supplies list, he's another look:

To make things easier, I've got a link to my store here so that you can check them out in the shop. There are a few more links there to other purse patterns too.

I hope you like my slideshow tutorial, it did take me ALLLL day to make - not the sewing - just the slide show. I really hope I get faster at those.

Thank you,

Janelle

  1. Wow, Janelle - I really like where you're going with these little videos and this particular tutorial in particular. As you say, these really are just TOO cute. I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need to make one and I don't know if I'll win out over myself... LOL! Great work!
